Contact Details
Feel free to contact me on any matter, such as asking for a quote or a price estimate. Requesting a quote is free and does not bind you in any way. My email address is the following: henry@kaannoslaine.fi.
General Information on Quotation
Below you can find information on what to include in a quote request. This information mainly concerns assignments related to translation, proofreading, revision, and transcription, but knowing some general guidelines will hopefully make it easier to write a quote request for any other language-related assignment. I will handle all material sent to me in a confidential manner and according to safe data-security practices.
Translations
If possible, please include in your message the original material that you would like to have translated: this can be done as an email attachment or as an external link (website, cloud storage, etc.). Alternatively, give as many details about the text as you can, such as its length and subject matter. Also, in such cases, it will be very helpful if you can provide an excerpt of the original text or another text that is similar to it (a so-called parallel text).
Please remember to mention the language that you would like the text to be translated into and the final delivery date for the finished translation. Also, I will gladly receive any additional information or requests that might affect the translation assignment, such as the purpose or target audience of the translation.
Authorized translations
Ordering an authorized translation requires some background information. Try to find out the answers to the following questions by asking the authority that is requesting an authorized translation of your document.
- Which (Finnish) authority is requesting an authorized translation and for what purpose?
- Does the translation have to be authorized, or would a plain, unauthorized translation be sufficient?
- What is the status of the document that is going to be translated? Is it the original document, a certified copy, a copy signed by two competent witnesses, or an unofficial copy?
- (If the document is not the original or a certified copy of it, please make sure that the authority will accept a translation made from such a document.)
- Does the document have to be legalized through the Apostille or Grand Legalization procedure?
In order to request a quote, you can make a photocopy of your document and send it to me via email. However, please note that you will have to send me (by conventional mail) the original document or a certified copy of it if the authority that requests an authorized translation is not satisfied with an unofficial copy.
If something is still unclear, feel free to contact me and I will try to provide guidance to the best of my knowledge.
Revision and proofreading
If possible, please include in your message the material (or an excerpt of it) that needs to be revised or proofread. Also, remember to mention the type of service (revision or proofreading) and the deadline for the improved text. If you only need certain sections of your text to be improved, try to indicate those sections as clearly as possible. One method is to mark them in the material. I will also gladly hear out any special requests that you might have about the revision or proofreading process.
Transcription
Please include in your message the material that needs to be transcribed or, if not possible, an excerpt of the material. Also, remember to mention the type of transcription (edited, clean verbatim, full verbatim, etc.) and the date by which the transcript must be ready and delivered. Feel free to include any other relevant information or material, such as an example transcript.
